Located in Glen Cove, on Long Island’s famous Gold Coast, sits Welwyn Preserve County Park. Once a sprawling estate that lived through the glamour and drama of the Jazz Age, it still one of the most beautiful, romantic spots to visit on Long Island.
Welwyn Estate, as it was once known, was the home of oil tycoon and philanthropist Harold Pratt. The estate was his escape from bustle of New York City, a place where his friends and family would come for boating, lawn sports, and elaborate parties. His Georgian-style mansion, originally built in 1913, is still on the property, and it provides the perfect place to start your engagement shoot.
Of course, it’s not just the house that’s lovely — every inch of the Welwyn Preserve has been designed and landscaped to showcase the beauty of Long Island. There wide laws around the house lead you to dense woodlands, where wandering paths take you on a secluded ramble. You’ll find dozens of beautiful spots to stop and enjoy, including a wooded stream valley, wildflower meadow, and several natural ponds. If you keep going, you’ll come to the private beach, with magnificent views out over the Long Island Sound.
With its mix of natural beauty and Jazz Age style, we love every inch of the Welwyn Preserve — and we’re sure that you will too!
